This delightful evening was heralded by a week-long Christmas-New year Fiesta that included host of fun-filled activities. The goings-on ranged from the adventurous treasure hunt to a surprisingly amusing JAM session. One of the contest days also included a (to the joy of the management) knowledge based Business Quiz immaculately created and hosted by, EMPI’s now in-house, Quizmaster Col. Guruswamy. This festive countdown continued with contests like ‘Woo the Girl’ and ‘Tug-of-War’ which appealed to the EMPI students in a big way. The result of which was a campus bustling with festive activities in anticipation of a grand finale befitting the week that preceded it. And the expectations only increased with each passing day. Finally the D-day came, providing a form of entertainment that appealed to the sensibilities of both the audience and the distinguished Guests.

River rafting....

RIGHT BACK LEFT FORWARD……..

30 October 2007, UTTARKASHI.......
The aroma of morning tea fills the mountain air. The sounds of the river begin to demand the attention of the students for rafting. Feeling full of energy from the morning tea that was orchestrated by the surround sounds of nature, the chores begin with full of excitement. With the morning activities completed, we finally bored the bus and reach the river bank for rafting.

Everyone secretly says their own prayer and draws a deep breath just as the lead guide issues the first official order of the day, "Everyone report to your assigned guide according to your team and load up."

As the boats depart into the river the guide keeps his commands, "back paddle on the right, forward on the left." Miles are traveled and time passes. The confidence of the students grows.

"Shh", listen! Hearts begin to race and friendly conversation is replaced with silence as a distant rumble increases in intensity. The demanding sounds of the rapids grow louder and louder. We know the moment has arrived. Nervous and uncertain we cautiously listens to the commands of the river guides. As quick as the rapids came upon them, the sound of water and screaming from the students were gone, replaced by the calming sounds of song birds.

Rapid after rapid, endless memories of smiles and laughter, the PGDBM students character is challenged by the river's strength. The souls of the students are enlightened by the beauty of the river. As time passed, the rapids have left a deep impression on everyone. The flora and fauna is breathtaking. The guides casually command "forward on the right side please." The boats begin to turn, the next command comes softly, "everyone forward paddle please." We find ourselves almost missing the instructions of the river guide because we were overtaken by the scenery beyond the banks of the river — beautiful camps, green trees and high hills.

Lunch is served on the camp with...mix vegetables, kher, papad…….etc. At lunch's end, everyone share their beautiful moments and again back to the river dance, swirling and twirling with the majestic water.

Cliff Jumping..

Splash! and you are reborn!

On Tuesday, 30th October 2007 we went for Cliff Jumping on the holy river of Ganges in Shivpuri. It was amazing. This was a new experience for me. Cliff jumping is just about the most fun thing in the world. Time stops and you wonder..... Splash! and you are reborn!

Although I was excited, there was some trepidation; I knew that we were going to have life jackets, helmet, proper instructions but still Water is not a very familliar place for me. I was nervous that I wouldn't have enough arm strength to be a productive paddler for the whole. But inspite of it all I went.

In the spirit of our adventurous trip I decided that no matter what, I would get the most out of all the experiences offered. I knew that there would be an opportunity to do some cliff jumping. The boat guide took us to the river bank and I was going to jump off the cliff!

As we passed by the rock we were to jump off, it didn't look that high. We pulled the boats up onshore, and climbed to the top. It came to my turn, and that familliar feeling overcame me. The rock looked much higher than it seemed from the water! I stood for a moment, but I had promised myself, committed to my friends, and so there really was no choice to make. I HAD to jump. So took a deep breath, let out a little scream and off I went! Falling through open air waiting to hit the water is NOT my favourite feeling, but just KNOWING that I had done it, was amazing.

Earlier in the day, we had body surfed through a very cool rapid. We experienced it first in the boat (and that got the adrenaline pumping!).

We got a safety briefing including where we had to position ourselves along the line of waves, what to watch for and what not to do! This rapid was located just beside the spot where we were stopping for lunch, so there was a large number of boats, people and river guides as well!

It was a scary experience, and it felt like I was going to drown, but in spite of what I FELT in that moment, I KNEW that those guides wouldn't let me get so far down the river that I would be lost. I also knew that my helmet would keep me safe, the lifejacket would keep me a float.

Manipur

"The sweet winds gently caress the vast extent of green fields. The smooth, soft rays of the early morning sun bathe the landscape and make the drops of dew on the grass-blades glisten like pearls..."

Such is the beauty of Manipur, my home state. It's beauty is to be seen to be believed and trying to describe it in words would be outright injustice.

This little piece of Land is described by the Global audience as "a little paradise on earth" and as "a flower on lofty height". In late Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru's words, it is "a jewel of India".

Geographically on the eastern frontier of India, it is bounded on the east by Myanmar (Burma), on the north by Nagaland, on the west by Assam and on the south by Mizoram & Myanmar.

Physically, Manipur comprises of two parts - the hills and the valley. The valley is at the centre surrounded by hills on all sides.
